Early life [edit]
Crofte was born in Ala Mhigo, a city-state located on the eastern corner of Aldenard in the region of Gyr Abania, along the salt lake of Loch Seid. It was here that he learned to heal in an infirmary, and in the Garlean invasion of his homeland Crofte assisted an evacuation of injured children--including his own nephew, Ulfrid--to the Black Shroud.
Career [edit]
Quarrymill [edit]

Crofte's time in the Black Shroud was short lived, as he and many of the Ala Mhigan refugees he travelled with were turned away, supposedly by the will of the elementals. It was this act that sparked Crofte's lifelong grudge against Gridanians and their beliefs. After doing what he could to rehome the injured children, he secured passage for his academically gifted nephew Ulfrid to Sharlayan before leaving to find work in Ul'Dah.
Ul'Dah [edit]
....... Main article: Link to Somewhere Else
In Ul'Dah, Crofte worked for many years as a guard at the Platinum Mirage and surrounding area, quickly becoming familiar with the city's streets and their residents. He often found himself in disagreements with his employers over his leniency towards the debtors of Pearl Lane. As his frustrations grew, he sought other opportunities and studied at the Alchemists' Guild for a short time--before causing quite the scene and storming out after a heated argument with the guild master, Severian. Witnesses claim to have overheard Crofte calling him "a prissy tit" as he stormed out of the Guild. He would go on to conduct his own studies and experiments in private, often testing his alchemical solutions on himself.
Esper Care [edit]
A chance encounter at a tavern led to the meeting of Crofte and his greatest frenemy, Arkana the Grey, who offered him a job at her then new Esper Care estate. Crofte would not only provide apothecary services, but also perform surgery when needed and even explored a form of "therapy for the mind," with mixed results. He drew criticism for his distinct lack of bedside manner and excessive invoicing of the estate's Ishgardian patron. It was also through Arkana the Grey that Crofte began his relationship with his partner Laelius, at a house party Arkana invited them both to.

When Esper Care closed and was replaced by the Aetherveil adventurer's guild, Crofte stayed for a while in a reduced caretaker role, before choosing to take retirement.

Crofte was reunited with his son Olyver shortly after he retired, through mutual friends of theirs. It came as a great surprise to him as for most of his life he had assumed that his nephew Ulfrid was his only living relative. Somehow, defying all logic, he remains close friends with Escher Strange.
